Equipment

barbell, plates, bench, rack, safeties

  1. Support a light barbell securely across your upper back and grip it outside your shoulders. Place the top of your rear foot on a stable low bench.
  2. Set your front foot far enough forward that you can lower comfortably while keeping its heel grounded.
  3. Bend your front knee and lower your hips under control, letting the rear knee move downward without striking the floor.
  4. Press through the front foot to rise without locking the knee forcefully. Keep the bar stable and repeat on the other side after your set.

Choose a comfortable range and use secure equipment. The illustration is a movement reference; stop if a movement causes pain.
